Nowadays King’s Mount simply looks like a grassy slope leading between two levels in the Elizabethan Ramparts. But did you know from the 1890s to the 1960s it was the site of a row of houses?

The houses were built to house officers of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers from the Barracks and would have given fantastic views over Spittal and down the coast.

There are still one or two people in Berwick today who lived in the houses and remember them well.

They were demolished in the late 1960s.
